Team Update - April 2026

Welcome to the team

We’re pleased to welcome Matt Hulena and Jaeden Mortlock (pictured below, left to right) to our dockmaster team this month.

With a degree in geography and politics, Matt brings a strong understanding of environmental and global perspectives. He has spent the past five years working on luxury charter vessels in Auckland as a deckhand and first mate, developing exceptional attention to detail and a strong commitment to safety and professionalism.

Jaeden joins us with a background as a commercial diver and five years’ experience in marine civil construction. He brings practical expertise in underwater operations and marine infrastructure, along with a strong focus on safety, precision, and problem-solving.

Matt and Jaeden share a genuine passion for the ocean – Matt enjoys surfing, water sports, and travel, while Jaeden can often be found sailing his Pied Piper. It’s great to have them on board, so be sure to say hello if you see them around the marina.

Marina cadet programme update

Since our last update, Georgia Dresner has now completed her rotation at Westhaven Marina, where she gained hands-on experience with the maintenance team. This stage of her cadetship further developed her practical skills across marina infrastructure and day-to-day operations. Georgia has now transitioned into her new role as senior operations administrator, supporting the Auckland Central and Silo marinas team. Recruitment for a new marina operations cadet will begin in the coming weeks.

Meanwhile, Jasper Camenzind (pictured below) continues to progress through his cadetship, contributing across marina operations while balancing an impressive competitive sailing schedule.

We’re delighted to share that Jasper has recently been crowned 2026 WASZP National Champion at the 2026 PredictWind WASZP New Zealand National Championships, successfully defending the title he won in 2025.

Held at Manly Sailing Club, the regatta brought together top sailors from around the country competing in the high-performance WASZP foiling dinghy class. Earlier this year, Jasper also achieved an outstanding result internationally, finishing second overall at the 2025–26 WASZP Asia Pacific Championships in Brisbane.

“It’s really rewarding to defend the national title this year,” Jasper said. “The competition was tough, but I managed to stay consistent and keep focused on each race.”

The WASZP is a single-handed foiling dinghy that lifts above the water on hydrofoils, creating fast, technical racing.

“Foiling is such an exciting way to sail – every gust of wind counts,” Jasper added.

Photos and coverage from the regatta are available online, including an interview with Jasper following his win – watch Jasper’s interview here.

A fantastic achievement – congratulations Jasper!
